Protest is loud. It cries out. Every movement carries its aural signature—chants, songs, noise, rupture. Far from simply accompanying political action, these sounds amplify it, making resistance audible. They are extensions of our political bodies and the ways in which we occupy space.
The aftermath of protest ushers in a different acoustic terrain: a disorienting quiet settles once the crowds thin, chants fade and voices dissipate. We begin to feel as though we’ve been abandoned by sound.
This is the moment into which the exhibition enters, reflecting on the rift between what was imagined and what remains possible. Better Left Unsaid invites artists to consider what the aftermath sounds like—politically, emotionally and relationally. What persists in the silence? What reverberates when the world feels like it remained materially unchanged?
The title Better Left Unsaid reflects the nihilistic times we inhabit—the sense that nothing can be said or done that will change anything. It gestures toward the fatigue of speaking, the exhaustion of a collective voice, the collapse of meaning in the face of repetition and repression. But it also calls that impulse into question. What if what is “unsaid” is not silence but precisely what cuts through the din of chatter and distraction? A dissonant presence that resists reduction into neat discourse. A rehearsal for listening anew.
