Bio:
Part of Southeast Asia’s electronic music scene, Victoria Yam moves between worlds as easily as she slips between her two experimental music projects, VIKTORIA and rEmPiT g0dDe$$. Spending her time between Kuala Lumpur and Cambodia, the producer and DJ boldly ventures into the farthest, darkest recesses of industrial club, whipping up missives from the underground - playing across Asia, Canada & Europe such as Boiler Room for Maho Rasop festival in Bangkok, Naarm's Speed at Final in Taipei, the Alex Blake Charlie Sessions Festival in Singapore, Pestapora festival with Yes No Wave in Jakarta, Nhạc Gãy in Saigon, King’s Place for the Oram Awards in London where she performs as Viktoria, her singer-songwriter alias and Venus Fest in Toronto.
CONCEPT
I have remixed *Ulek Mayang* by Shh...Diam!, a Malaysian queer band that composed an album for the devised theatre production *To Which My Brother Laugh*—a work created in response to the caning of two women accused of attempting same-sex relations after being discovered in a car in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia. This remix is a genre-blending composition that fuses dub, Southeast Asian instrumentation, and experimental club elements. Conceptually, it seeks to explore the seamless integration of diverse soundscapes and cultural influences, reflecting themes of convergence and coexistence.
