RING SOUND

This section focuses on examination of Thai protest and revolutionary music from the uprising of 14 October 1973 into the present, which aims to better understand the origins and contexts of the protest and revolutionary songs associated with different respective movements.

Among political movements in Thailand, music often serves as the main communication platform within protests, helping spread their ideas of resistance. The music used in each era has interesting points of connection and differences. The use of music in modern political movements and protests in Thailand began on October 14, 1973, and has become an important part of demonstrations thenceforth. Music and songs heard at protest sites became very popular and well-known to large numbers of people.

Part 3 - LIBERTY, thus aims to examine the dynamics and importance of Thai protest music in each era, starting with the uprising of 14 October 1973, and including the 6 October 1976 massacre, Black May 1992, Bloody May 2010, and the present era 2019-23 which involves the new Thai generation. These political protests are the starting point of understanding the past demonstrations. Taking the songs, lyrics, and melodies used in these different protest movements and years as starting points, followed by researching the origins and creation of protest music of each respective time and context. The extended art exhibition and mini-festival may as well be conducted.
