Bio:
Liberate P. or Nutthapong Srimuang, also known as Liberate P, is a Thai rapper and political activist, best known as a leading member of Rap Against Dictatorship (RAD), a hip-hop group that uses music as a form of political protest. He gained international recognition for the viral song Prathet Ku Mee (“Which is My Country”), which criticizes Thailand’s military rule, government corruption, and restrictions on freedom of speech. The song quickly went viral, gaining millions of views within days of its release in 2018, despite government attempts to suppress it .
Born in Chanthaburi, Thailand, Nutthapong originally pursued a degree in architecture but became more deeply involved in music and activism. His rap lyrics frequently reference historical political violence in Thailand, including the 1976 Thammasat University massacre, which is often omitted from school curriculums . His activism has led to scrutiny from Thai authorities, with government officials at one point considering legal action against him and other members of RAD .
Despite these challenges, RAD has continued to produce politically charged music and remains a significant voice for democracy in Thailand. In recognition of their activism, the group received the Václav Havel Prize for Creative Dissent in 2019, an award given to artists and activists who fight against oppression .
