TRNGS
(United States of America)
Bio:
TRNGS is a New York born / Berlin based artist mainly working with sound and visual media. Their sound has been described as a psycho-acoustic, maximalist post-club experiment heavily influenced by cutting edge sound design and rhythmic warping.
TRNGS discography spans an array of releases on labels such as Infinite Machine, Gin&Platonic, Mutant Mixtapes, and Bio Future Laboratory. Their live show is an improvisatory live extension of their practice that has been seen at stages such as CURA Festival in Italy, ALL Club in Shanghai, and SPACE in Shinjuku.
In addition to the output on various labels, TRNGS, alongside Cleo Miao (10_r3n), is also the founder of their own label, G_SV. This platform serves as a vessel for exploring and curating experimental electronic fringes and media projects.
CONCEPT
For Three Sound, I had a lot of trouble finding a song to remix for this project in the context of
the US that represented political disappointment in a way that I felt was substantial.
The song I ended up proposing is the “Sesame Street” opening theme song. For context, this
was a children’s educational TV show that pioneered techniques to increase literacy through
mass media. It took advantage of the virality of television and child psychology to help teach
children how to read, follow stories, and basic math at a zero cost to consumer framework. It
was a revolution in education; especially for low income households where quality early
education was limited.
All this being said, the fun and memetic nature of the music in Sesame street that appealed to
kids in the education gap was also used in an extremely violent way.
At CIA black sites such as Guantanamo Bay, the "Sesame Street" theme song was
transformed into an instrument of psychological warfare. Played at deafening volumes on
endless loops, it became a tool for sleep deprivation and sensory disorientation—a technique
designed to break the will and sanity of detainees. The same song that once symbolized hope
and education for underserved children was now deployed in the machinery of state-sponsored
violence.
When this practice came to light, it sent shockwaves through the cultural consciousness. The
creators of "Sesame Street"—who had built their careers around nurturing young
minds—reacted with horror and disgust. But their reaction highlighted something deeper: the
unsettling plurality within American culture, where creations intended for innocence and
education could be twisted into tools of oppression and control.
With this remix, I want to “slow and reverb” the theme song by 10000% to turn this into a drone,
ambient piece with a sort of serene quality; maybe something to fall asleep to.
Lyric
ENGLISH
Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
Can you tell me how to get?
How to get to Sesame Street
Come and play
Everything's A-OK
Friendly neighbors there
That's where we meet
Can you tell me how to get
How to get to Sesame Street
It's a magic carpet ride
Every door will open wide
To happy people like you
Happy people like
What a beautiful
Sunny Day
Sweepin' the clouds away
On my way to where the air is sweet
Can you tell me how to get,
How to get to Sesame Street...
How to get to Sesame Street
How to get to...
