Bio:

Salem Rashid Skourlis, a human artist and composer, defies limits to manifest his solo project "fatalism." Drawing inspiration from personal experiences with paganism, pacifism, and immigration, fatalism intertwines otherworldly sounds and post-industrial landscapes. His work, relentless and self-sufficient, illuminates a foreboding future. Founder of Bedouin Records, he has captivated audiences worldwide in prestigious venues like Berghain, Berlin and KGR(n), Tokyo. fatalism’s forthcoming debut album, "fatalism:Gh0st," explores human escapism and the power of music to transcend societal confines. Currently based in Bangkok, Salem continues to forge sonic journeys, prepare film soundtracks, and embark on a solo tour for the release of his new album.

CONCEPT

As an artist known by the name “fatalism," I am honored to contribute to the dynamic and transformative THE THREE SOUND OF REVOLUTION project, specifically the MIDDLE SOUND (EQUALITY) initiative, curated by Pisitakun. In collaboration with this project, I present my unique interpretation inspired by the historic radio broadcast "Here Polytechnic," a beacon of resistance and defiance during a critical juncture in history.

My artistic endeavor delves into the profound significance of the Polytechnic uprising in November 1973, a pivotal moment that epitomized the unyielding spirit of struggle against oppressive regimes. Through my remix version of "Here Polytechnic," I aim to encapsulate the resounding echoes of resistance, echoing the indomitable calls for equality and freedom that resonate from the past to the present.

The Polytechnic uprising stands as a testament to the power of unity and the unwavering pursuit of justice. By infusing my artistic expression into this historical narrative, I seek to bridge the temporal gap, connecting the fervor of that momentous event with the urgency of contemporary challenges. Through soundscapes, I evoke the ethos of the "Free Besieged," their determination to communicate, mobilize, and empower. The clandestine radio station, conceived and realized in the crucible of adversity, becomes a metaphor for the enduring potency of collective action.

My remix version intertwines the revolutionary slogans, the impassioned pleas, and the very heartbeat of a nation yearning for change. It is a sonic tapestry that interweaves the voices of the past with the aspirations of today, a reminder that the struggles for justice and equality are timeless and universal. The echoes of "Fascism is dying tonight," "Workers, farmers and students," and "Down with the junta" reverberate across generations, forging a harmonious resonance of defiance against tyranny.

Through the audial medium, I invite the audience to immerse themselves in this historical narrative, to traverse the corridors of time and bear witness to the courageous spirit that defined the Polytechnic uprising. Just as the announcer's voice courageously echoed the strains of the National Anthem amidst adversity, my remix seeks to amplify the enduring legacy of the Polytechnic's defiance.

“fatalism" embraces this opportunity to contribute to THE THREE SOUND OF REVOLUTION project as a means to celebrate the power of art and expression in shaping societal discourse. By intertwining the revolutionary fervor of the past with the urgent calls for equality today, my artistic endeavor serves as an homage to the resilience of the human spirit and an homage to those who paved the way for a more just and equitable world.
