  • THE THREE SOUND OF REVOLUTION / RING SOUND / MIDDLE SOUND / INDEX SOUND

Ruhail Qaisar
(India)

Bio:

Ruhail Qaisar is a self-taught artist from Ladakh. As a musician, he explores the confines of memory, the dry rot of intergenerational trauma, and the eerie swarms of the human unconscious, incorporating vernacular concepts, poetic gestures, and improvisational chaos.

The work serves to transmit sub-zero sound-collage excavations based on real-life events and local mythos, as developed through his recollections of growing up in the frontier villages of the Ladakh region located in the high-altitude Himalayas, drones of hauntology disgracefully disturbed with spastic tremors of post-industrial delirium and cruel power-electronics.

His debut full-length Fatima is out on Danse Noire.

CONCEPT

This composition is a collage of two pieces one harkens back to 1999-2000 era Ladakh where the mass uprising took place against the government schools who failed almost every student in all their schools, the education system was very centralised and the medium of instruction was english and hindi which was alien to local children who spoke Ladakhi.

The latter end refers to the recent uprising in Ladakh led by Sonam Wangchuk , demanding the sixth schedule for the Union Territory of Ladakh, which grants us environmental and cultural protection by law, if this law isnt granted then we as Ladakhis are going to face mass industrialization and occupation by mainland India erasing our land and cultural roots.

Also to note that during the Sixth Schedule Protest it was the first time that Ladakh was unified was one with people from all ethnic and religious backgrounds protesting for a single cause.
